A Journey of Passion:
The Story of Sunremo Cycles

Neutral zone
Some vocations arise from curiosity. In Jimei, a coastal town in Xiamen, a boy grows up among the racing bikes on which his older brother rides along the island’s scenic avenues. It’s the second half of the 1980s and the boy is fascinated by the technology hidden behind every bicycle frame and wheel. He wants to use craftsmanship and technology to make riding a smoother, freer experience by the sea. It’s a deep, lifelong love. The boy’s name is Chen Hao.

In his home workshop amid Xiamen’s arcade-style old streets, he begins brazing, disassembling and reassembling frames, getting his hands dirty to understand how every part works. At the beginning it is nothing more than a game. As a self-taught enthusiast, he ventures between materials and geometries, between mechanics and aesthetics, between coastal riding needs and pure passion. In those years, bike production in China was mostly mass-produced; Chen Hao chooses to stick to artisan craft and starts working in his home workshop.

Km 0 – Start

In 2006, fate knocks on his door with a landmark order: a professional rider over two meters tall is looking for a custom carbon fiber frame built for his body. Chen Hao accepts the challenge and throws himself headlong into it—it’s the chance to turn his passion into something tangible and recognized.

He draws by hand the first SUNREMO frame in history. He bases its geometry on one core idea: the frame must be an extension of the rider’s body, where mechanics adapt to biology to unlock full potential. This becomes the foundation of his entrepreneurial journey. He sources premium carbon fiber tubes and assembles them by hand in his Xiamen workshop. Years of trial and error, sacrifice and perfectionist care take shape in every weld and layer. The customer is thrilled, and that first frame logs tens of thousands of kilometers over the next decade. That debut product proves the brand’s potential and sparks more orders, giving Chen Hao the confidence to open his official workshop. Thus, SUNREMO was born in Xiamen.

From the very beginning, he understood how essential a precise working method and deep respect for materials and craftspeople are. He analyzes every component and studies how to refine it. Chen Hao keeps the curious gaze of his boyhood but sharpens it with technology and hands-on experience. He knows he must industrialize artisan processes to make them more precise and reliable.

Fascinated by advanced engineering, he travels to Europe—the home of elite cycling manufacturing. There, European partners embrace this meticulous Chinese craftsman, who is reliable, perfection-driven, and willing to fly across borders to solve problems for customers personally. Europe lifts SUNREMO onto the global stage, and Chen Hao remains grateful for the market that helped his brand take root and grow.
Echelons

Back then, early carbon fiber frames often suffered from weak bonding and inconsistent layering. Cost-cutting shortcuts led to fragile, short-lived products. Once again, SUNREMO’s story is rooted in careful observation and relentless improvement. It’s not about being the fastest to market, but the determination to be the best over time, developing safer, more durable solutions. Chen Hao refuses to cut corners; he insists on producing perfectly.

Sit in the bunch, stay out of the wind

Europe once again proves pivotal. During a manufacturing study trip, Chen Hao learns advanced anti-corrosion and structural reinforcement techniques from high-end automotive and aerospace industries. SUNREMO becomes the first brand in its field to manually apply a specialized resin layer inside carbon frames to block internal erosion and boost durability. The system works flawlessly, setting SUNREMO apart with frames that are stronger, more reliable, and built to last.

Intermediate sprint

But even early carbon fiber, despite steady improvements, faced pressure from cheaper, lower-quality alternatives. By the late 2000s, mass-produced carbon components flooded the market, prioritizing low cost over performance. Lighter but flimsy, they spread quickly but sacrificed strength and safety. SUNREMO refused to follow; it doubled down on premium carbon fiber craftsmanship instead.

GPM – Polka dot jersey

The heart of a SUNREMO frame is never the material—it’s the rider. Chen Hao asks: How to build a frame that fits diverse body types and riding styles? How to harmonize bike mechanics with the human body to elevate the joy of coastal riding in Xiamen? He begins measuring the bodies of hundreds of local and global riders, turning data into perfectly calibrated frame geometries.

The importance of the team
The human factor is the center of Chen Hao’s vision. It’s not only about building frames for the best riding experience, but also respect and trust for the team that grows SUNREMO with him. “You can’t do anything alone,” Chen Hao knows well. Master craftsmen pass down artisan skills; their hands lift SUNREMO’s quality to new heights. Design is technical; production is handmade.

Every process is calibrated to protect technicians’ health and prevent errors. The eco-friendly paints SUNREMO develops shield frames without harming painters. Materials evolve, but the craft remains unchanged. SUNREMO obsessively tests every new product—salt-spray tests in labs, rough-terrain rides on Xiamen’s hills—to perfect quality. This is the only way to build something that lasts.

The domestique

Production processes are always designed with the craftspeople in mind, minimizing fatigue and errors. Safety and health come first, from non-toxic materials to ergonomic workstations. Materials and technologies advance, but the commitment to handcrafted excellence stays the same. Every SUNREMO wheel is hand-built by master wheel builders; every frame undergoes strict inspections. Only this relentless focus on quality creates products that stand the test of time and roads.

The bunch where everybody takes turns

SUNREMO finds its identity in a unique blend: Xiamen’s coastal artisan spirit, European engineering precision, and Eastern lean craftsmanship. Ambition in design, humility in execution—always questioning, always improving. Try, fail, observe, collaborate, and try again until perfection is reached.

The brand collaborates with experts beyond cycling: its carbon frames are tested by leading universities to refine torsion and bending performance. Teamwork and mutual growth drive every innovation.

The slight slope

At the same time, Chen Hao wants SUNREMO to grow sustainably: building durable frames and developing technologies at a steady, responsible pace. In an industry chasing fast obsolescence to boost sales, SUNREMO keeps its core technologies stable for at least three years. It rejects wasteful, short-lived products, choosing long-term value over quick profits.

Finding our own rhythm

The guiding direction of SUNREMO is always to deliver the best riding experience. The company begins developing its own components alongside frames, taking a holistic approach. It’s not about extreme performance, lighter weight, or better aerodynamics alone—it’s about making every ride better for every rider. If SUNREMO creates a new wheel, it’s not just to make it lighter, but to make every pedal stroke smoother and more efficient.

Over the years, a complete ecosystem has grown around SUNREMO, staying true to the boy’s original mission: to build better bikes for the love of riding.

The long ride

This is the path SUNREMO has traveled for nearly two decades, laying the groundwork for the future. Chen Hao remains the backbone of the brand, working with the same curiosity, enthusiasm, and humility. He still gets his hands dirty because, as he says, “I am and will always be a craftsman.”

A craftsman who has dedicated nearly 20 years to making every ride—whether a professional race or a casual coastal cruise in Xiamen—a better, more joyful experience.
